The Cox Family in West Hanney, Berkshire

Many of the Coxes in my family tree originally come from the small villages of East and West Hanney in Berkshire (now in Oxfordshire) where they were the local blacksmiths for many generations.

By pure coincidence, I was bought up only some 20 miles from these villages but had no idea we had any family connections with anywhere in Berkshire, so it was a nice surprise to be able to visit somewhere our ancestors had lived so easily.

On the monumental inscriptions microfiche for East and West Hanney I could only find records for one Cox. Mary Cox, wife of John Cox, who departed this life June 27th 1876 aged 50 years.

However, West Hanney churchyard seems to be still very much in use and I found some more recent Cox burials
