EVANS FAMILY TREE

Can anyone help with these?

Susanna Sargeant

Does anyone have a Susanna Sargeant in their tree?

I have an original copy of her will, yet I've not quite been able to fit her in to my own family. She died in Bermondsey on the 29th of November 1873, in the house of her neice Emma Elizabeth Burkett.

Other names mentioned in the will are Charles and Anne Sparwell (her neice), a brother Daniel Sargeant and his children Daniel, Mary and Sarah, and some more neices and nephews who were Smiths.

I think that her sister was Mary Sargeant, who married John Burkett (father of Emma Elizabeth), but I don't have any proof of this.

Desperately trying to find out any information about Richard Cooper

Born about 1837.

So far, all I've been able to ascertain is that he married Eliza Merrie TUCK on the 26th November 1858 in Romsey, Hampshire.

The couple had two children, William Henry COOPER, born 3rd December 1859 in Romsey and Frank Merrie COOPER, born 1st April 1861 in Romsey.

From his wedding certificate I know he worked as a porter in Romsey, and that his father was also called Richard COOPER and also a porter too.

I believe he died in Romsey in 1874.

I have various belongings from the Cooper family that seem to connect them to other Coopers in Romsey yet I’ve never been able to make any solid connection.

He is not listed in surname index of the 1851 census for Romsey and I couldn’t find him in the 1861 census either, although this hasn’t been indexed so it was rather a blind search. I failed to find them in the 1871 census too, but the microfilms at the London Family History centre were very hard to read for this year.

Mary Susannah Butler and Emma Butler of Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA

Updated 29th Dec 2003

In 1914 Mary Susannah BUTLER (nee LEADER) and her daughter Emma Elizabeth BUTLER emigrated to Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA.

At that time Mary was a widow, but I’ve never been able to trace her marriage or any mention of her husband at all, despite having been given lots of her letters written to her sister in England.

She was still a Leader and living with her family in Bermondsey for the 1891 census. The records on the Ellis Island website from 1914 list her as having been living in Bridgeport Connecticut previously from 1894 to 1914. Her daughter Emma was also born there.

I wonder if there is anyone researching these names in the USA?
